PETROTECH-2009, the 8th edition of International Oil & Gas Conferences and Exhibitions, is being organised at New Delhi during January 11th-15th, 2009 by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India.

India is the latest theatre of world business, and the PETROTECH series of International Conferences and Exhibitions showcases the Indian oil & gas industry to  the world.This biennial event has gained importance over the years by bringing together industry professionals, Government officials, strategists,academicians, construction firms, suppliers, vendors and all those engaged in providing energy security to the country and the world at large, on a common platform to deliberate and interact on the challenges and opportunities in the industry.

Hydrocarbons are an important source of energy worldwide and remain a critical input in the process of economic development. For the last few years, we have witnessed a surge in crude oil prices in the international market, impacted by related geo-political developments. The issue of energy security has come into renewed focus in the wake of such developments. The world over, the oil industry as a whole has to move towards new horizons, explore new technologies, collaborate and develop symbiotic relationships in order to ensure secure, environment-friendly and affordable energy supplies. I am confident that the theme of PETROTECH-2009,"Energy Independence with Global Cooperation: Opportunities & Solutions", will generate an interesting debate and address relevant concerns at the event to take the industry forward.

I hope PETROTECH-2009 will forge new partnerships and open up more avenues for cooperation in securing a green tomorrow replete with secure and affordable energy for all.

Over the years, the PETROTECH Conference has attracted increased participation from India and abroad, underlining its surging popularity and relevance. The PETROTECH Exhibition held concurrently is also drawing exhibitors from across the globe in increasing numbers. This speaks of the growing importance of the biennial event that has become a prestigious and must-attend one. We shall go further ahead in PETROTECH-2009. India is at the cusp of exciting times.
